Enable 'sleep mode'/'automatic mode' in your AC so that when a certain temperature is reached the AC automatically turns off. .
Don't leave the AC on when you are not in the room. Many people do that so that when they return to the room they find it cool. This happens due to the cooling the room received in the last, say, 15 minutes before you entered the room, for the remainder of time you were cooling the room for ghosts. .
Commute to the workplace using the public bus rather than your personal car. .
Ride/walk to your workplace insteading of using 'motorized' vehicles. .
If the driver allows it, take on a bicycle with you on the bus so that you can use it at your destination. Otherwise consider buying a fold-able bicycle. .
Set the cooling level of your refrigerator to the minimum. .
Don't store too much food in your refrigerator, but rely more on fresh foods. This shall be healthier too. .
The above saves more energy if you then replace your large refrigerator with a smaller one, fit for the purpose. .
Don't use a refrigerator at all. That's challenging, but if you surf the web you will learn how so many people are doing it. .
If you have more than a refrigerator consider moving all stuff into one (when supplies begin to last) and switch off the earlier. .
Power off your water cooler at night or when you leave the workplace. Again, cooling and heating are top consumers of energy in most homes. .
Turn off the hot water heater of the water cooler. Use instead a kettle that heats water only when you need it. .
If you ought to have an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle!) don't use it alone. It's tremendously inefficient to run a seven-seat car when actually only one person is being transported. .
When you drive take people on your way. That makes for a socializing opportunity too. .
Grow vegetables and fruits in your garden. The transportation costs of veggies at the stores demands attention. .
If you cannot grow your vegetables, buy the locally grown ones, in lieu of imported ones. .
Take your custom to the most efficient and environmental-friendly sellers. .
Shop from local Online Stores (e-commerce) and prefer sites that don't have a brick-and-mortar store. .
Brush your teeth with a mechanical toothbrush instead of an electric one. It's not that hard to brush after all. .
Charge your batteries with the solar energy battery chargers. There may be plenty of sun in your area. .
Charge your cellphone and mp3 player with a solar power charger. In certain regions in summer, one doesn't run the risk of water raining over phones! .
Use a dishwasher to wash the dishes instead of manually washing them at the sink. Saves loads of time too. .
Wash dishes only when the dishwasher is full. Doing less than that may no longer be more efficient, than manual washing. Efficiency arises from the efficient water and soup consumption of the dishwasher. .
As with the dishwasher, wash clothes only when the washing machine is full. .
Don't wash clean clothes just because you had a shower (especially if you take one every morning). That's better for the clothes too. .
Consider using slightly dirty clothes when appearance is not of primary importance before washing them. Not to be filthy, but certain activities need not you be in perfect appearance. .
When reliably available go for second-hand electronics (mobile phones, laptops,etc...). It's a much more efficient use of resources. .
Borrow/rent books (and textbooks) rather than buying them. If you don't intend to refer to the book after reading it, there is no use of it on your shelf. .
Sell/give away books you had bought but don't need for reference. .
Don't make unnecessary copies of documents, when you don't need them. This especially true of invoices, is not a paper copy and a scanned digital copy more than enough? .
Avoid taking copies of invoices when not required. .
Put paper used on one side only in the fax machine so that faxes are printed on the unused side. .
If no signature is required, use an application to send your fax documents directly from the computer, instead of printing them and then manually fax them. .
If you printer/copier supports it, enable double-face printing (or however it's referred to by your printer manufacturer) such that both faces of the sheet are considered as pages. .
Avoid printing digital documents. This is especially true for ebook, emails and other articles. Make an effort to read them on the computer display. .
Use a pencil, instead of a pen for taking notes and whenever ink pens are not required (eg. written exams). Pencils cost less than pens in terms of resources, and mechanical lead pencils are less wasteful, as you only replace the leads instead of the whole pen. .
If you don´t shop online for your groceries, reach the store once you can fill as much as possible your car. That makes for less frequent visits. .
If you should shop from different stores, or visit several places, arrange to visit them minimizing the total travelling distance. This is not an NP-Complete task. .
Let the lawn in your garder grow long. .
Postpone trimming the leafs of trees in your garden. Leafs even absorb CO2. .
Rely on electrical light instead of sun light from the window, when it´s very hot (or very cold), and hence cover/close the window. This is because the solar energy brought in with sun rays maybe more expensive to cool than diverting sun rays all together and turning on indoor lights. .
Install effective solar protections on your windows. This involves installing indoor curtains best suited to your condition. Don´t think of decor only. .
Install outdoor curtains. These are particularly effective in blocking sun rays as they do so before they reach the magnifying windows´ glass. .
Sell/get rid off stuff you don´t currently need (or in the near future). The storage cost is considerable in terms of resources. .
Move to a smaller house, where space is well-used. This results in less cooling/heating/lighting/cleaning costs, and land resources. .
In your holidays consider relaxing at home instead of travelling. .
If you are traveling, consider nearer locations. .
If you are traveling, opt for public transport instead of personal. .
Consider using public transport or renting a car, instead of importing your car. .
Consider replacing your old car with a smaller new car. It´s likely that your government will offer incentives. .
In summer dress lightly. In winter dress heavily. .
Make your green motivations public, in order to encourage others to follow suit. Share this list. .
Through your citizenship, support environmental decisions. .
When making donations, consider donating to tree planting organizations (or other environmental organizations). .
Plant more trees in your garden. .
Use gas for cooking instead of electric fire. Unless you know that your area power plant is powered with natural gas already. .
Consider buying a solar energy heater. These are very efficient (in hot countries in particular) and may return high on the investment within few years. .
Consider installing a solar energy power grid. Through government and delayed payment, it may still be a worthwhile investment. .
Consider buying products that greener than their substitutes, even if the difference is little. .
Support research into alternative energy sources, as these research groups suggest. .
When searching for a flat to let, prefer those with independent heating, so that you may switch it off at your own preference, and those nearer to services of interest, so that you will travel less. .
When possible, connect to the internet via ethernet (cable) instead of wireless, and turn off the wireless. .
Turn off your network router/gateway at night, when not in use. That is more secure. .
Grow your hair longer, so that you go to the barbier less often. .
Keep your hair short (!) if otherwise you use straighteners and other hair styling products. .
Keep unnecessary paper for other uses later. This includes quick note taking, or mathematical calculations. .
Consider arranging more events/appointments during daylight hours instead of at night. .
Consider waking up early in the morning. Early in the morning the temperature is also likely to be moderate. .
Avoid having full tap bathes all together. .
Steer clear of dirt sources, and hence wash yourself less frequently. .
Keep a clock in the shower, so to keep an eye on time. .
Install a water filter on your taps (especially the shower´s) so that the tap will emit water with air in between (filter effect) automatically saving on water, and without your notice. .
When cooling/heating at home/office keep close the doors of rooms you don´t need to heat/cool, such as the toilet. .
Consider installing heat insulating solutions for your home/office, such as double windows. This is often very effective, as with solar protections, since it reduces heating/cooling needs in the first place. Refer to a specialist for an evaluation. .
When for cooling a fan is not enough, still keep the fan on with the AC, but at higher degrees. It´s often more efficient to achieve the required cooling level with a combination of fan and AC, instead of AC alone. .
When online editions of documents, as newspapers, are available, consume the online edition instead of the paper one. .
When viable put clothes to dry under the sun, instead of in the dryer. Middleway solutions are also better than only in the dryer. .
When washing use the lowest temperature possible. See instructions on clothes (or in the washing machine manual). .
When ironing use the lowest temperature too. .
When cold wear indoor scarfs, hats, and double socks (outdoor clothes) before raising the heating temperature. .
Consider using a laptop, instead of a desktop computer, as the latter may emit 5-12 times more than the former, due to battery optimization technique´s implemented by the former´s manufacturers. .
Switch off your electric door bell at night/when in holidays. Present day bells consume one watt/hour while not in use. Given the number of European households, a nuclear power station is required only to power those bells. .
Reduce your coffee and tea consumption, as these are often imported for Brazil and India (unless you live in those countries). It´s still disputable whether that would be a healthy choice too. .
Buy paper made from farmed trees, or even better, recycled paper. .
If you are an engineer/developer make environmental/efficiency considerations in your projects. .
If you live in the countryside keep your horse/donkey for transport.
